Florida Medical Marijuana – Turning Over a “New Leaf”

MM Blog 11-4Amendment 2 in Florida leaves many unanswered questions about a multitude of issues and undoubtedly societal concerns.

As with any controversial issue, one must weigh the pros/cons.

If Amendment 2 passes

SOCIETY PERSPECTIVE –

  • It will be inserted into the Florida constitution as Article X, Section 29, lifting civil and criminal liability for the medical use of marijuana by a qualifying patient.
  • It will also eliminate civil and criminal liability, and sanctions, for a physician that issues a physician certification for a person diagnosed with a debilitating medical condition.

STATE REVENUE PERSPECTIVE- 

  • Some current economic projections for Florida, estimate an additional $5.6 billion in sales – equating to an additional tax revenue of $338 million+
